Yellowstone National Park, Part 2

Yellowstone National Park, Part 2

Well, I have never read or heard anyone say that this place was boring. So after leaving Devil’s Tower we were really excited about the next stage of our adventure.

We were heading into Yellowstone through the East Entrance. We had figured that we would stay in Wapiti, WY at the East entrance for a few days and explore all that is on that side of the park and then stay up in Gardiner, MT, which is at the North Entrance and explore the northern and western sections. Then we would head south and stay down in Jackson and explore the Tetons for the last two days. I know that everyone has a reason and method for their madness. Ultimately this worked out perfectly for us!

IMG_3995To me, Yellowstone it’s almost like real estate, its all about time and place. If you are in the right place at the right time, you will see some amazing things. This could be wildlife or it could be the burst of water and steam from a geyser. The important thing is to schedule your time, take your time and find out the places where things are going to happen. I am by no means an expert, but I will tell you where we were when we saw some memory making events.

First, we traveled clear across the state of Wyoming. Our intent was to get to our hotel in Wapiti and get a fresh start early the next morning into the park. Remember the key word – EARLY! That’s when things happen.  Animals wake up and they’re hungry and are apt to be moving around a lot looking for food and drink.

We stayed at a wonderful place The Yellowstone Valley Inn in Wapiti. We had our own little duplex cabin which was really cute. The service was great, the place was clean and breakfast was really terrific. I would highly recommend it. Plus it is really close to the east entrance of the park as well as Cody. We thought that this would be good because we could go into town for dinner and the rodeo one night and we could take a run at the wild horses at McCullough Peaks to see if we can find any.

On our first day we headed in the park through the East Gate and  although the weather was so so, we could just feel the excitement of the beginning of our adventure. On our way in we were talking about bear and wolves and bison and bear and bison and…it was just beautiful!

IMG_4019We started on our trek through the gate and our heads were just spinning looking for wildlife on our way to Fishing Bridge. I had studied all the maps and noted where the most sightings of animals were and then…there they were! Incredible—-3 mule deer! Ok Ok…lets not get crazy. But it was the start of something good. No the start of something great!

Not a lot of wildlife activity between East entrance and Fishing Bridge. We then headed up towards the canyon and just caught some beautiful landscape photos. Make sure you go to the photo gallery page and check out all the pictures. From there we were heading up to Lamar Valley, so up the Canyon we went stopping at so many side stops taking photos and just…….looking and listening and actually seeing. Take your time when you are in this park. It will de-stress you and take you back to a slower life.

We finally got to the falls and took some great pictures there. The funny thing is that I was totally prepared for a lot of traffic and congestion and crowds., and actually there was very little. The entire week we were there, we had maybe 3 stop in the middle of the road type jams. And each one of them was worth it!

I’ll stop here. Getting a little wordy and probably boring. Will update the rest in a day or two. Take a look at the photo gallery in the meantime.
